Hi, I’m Jim, KF8CRS. I’m a beginner ham radio operator, and this blog is my way of sharing my journey into the world of amateur radio. Like many, I started with the basics—getting licensed. I filed for my Federal Registration Number (FRN), picked up the ARRL Study Guide for the Technician license from Amazon, and prepared for my first exam. But I quickly realized that amateur radio is more than just a license—it’s an adventure, a passion, and a lifelong learning experience.
Each of us has our own unique story in this hobby, one that goes beyond regulations and test scores. It’s a journey shaped by curiosity, challenges, and the thrill of making that first contact or building something from scratch.
This blog is my way of documenting that journey—what I learn, what I experience, and the insights I gain along the way. Whether you’re new to amateur radio or a seasoned operator, I hope my posts will educate, inspire, and spark new ideas. I’ll cover topics like licensing, the history of ham radio, operating at my level, and the hands-on experiences that make this hobby so exciting.
If you’re passionate about radio, love to tinker, or are just starting out like me, I invite you to follow along as I explore the world of amateur radio, one transmission at a time.
